Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko said the presence of an electronic-based government system (SPBE) that can reliably support the presence of big data that can be used for the development of technological innovation to more efficient policy making.
According to him, big data is one of the keys for Indonesia to develop technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) better and even make AI a real solution for the community.

“Actually, it is important for us (Indonesia) to create structured business processes so that the data is automatically collected by the system. It is also the ultimate goal of SPBE. It is very important for all of us, especially the government to take a more evidence and science based policy,” Laksana said in Jakarta, Thursday.
He said Actually Indonesia has great potential to get a lot of variety of big data from various sectors considering the diverse population and also many dynamics that can be taken as data.
But unfortunately, it is still a challenge because in terms of data collection systems that are presented both in industry and at the government level are still poorly structured.
Therefore, Laksana assesses the need for improvements to a more structured system in data collection so that diverse big data can be created and can later be explored for the development of technology and innovation and even for decision making.
“The point is how we can create big data from Indonesia. How can we elaborate to explore the potential of big data, ” said Laksana.
From the government side, SPBE is one way to make data collection more structured through digitization. He said the government’s plan to present a National Data Center (PDN) is also one way to strengthen SPBE.
It is hoped that with the presence of PDN, important data related to community dynamics can be collected better, organized, and finally can be used as a reference to create new solutions for the community.
