The Ministry of Communications and Digital (Kemkomdigi) stated that it continues to strive to accelerate digital transformation as one of the important steps in realizing the Golden Indonesia vision 2045.
Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria in The Next Billion Ecosystem (Nex-BE) Festival in Jakarta, Thursday said that digital transformation is expected to be a sector that is able to significantly improve the economy.
“Here we see the importance of digital transformation as an enabler, as a key catalyst. To optimize that momentum, the digital economy is one of the sectors that must be seriously worked on,” said Nezar.
Nezar said Indonesia was ambitious to achieve high-income country status by 2045, with a target of GDP per capita of us $ 15,700 by 2038.
To achieve this, Indonesia needs the right strategy, especially in the 2024-2029 period which is considered an important bridge towards this goal.
To avoid mediocre economic development, the government realized the need for more efforts to achieve these targets.
According to Nezar, digital transformation acts as a major catalyst that can accelerate economic growth.
He said that Indonesia’s digital economic transactions in 2024 are expected to reach 90 billion US dollars, and are predicted to continue to grow to reach 200 to 360 billion US dollars in 2030.
As for one of the sectors that drives this development is e-commerce, which in 2024 is expected to contribute 65 billion US dollars and will continue to grow.
“The growth of the digital economy is certainly supported by various sectors, one of which is the e-commerce sector. The development of e-commerce in the country is good, of course, we need to keep it in order to be able to stimulate the development of the startup ecosystem in Indonesia,” he said.
Furthermore, Nezar said that the development of the digital ecosystem, especially startups, is also key in encouraging the digital economy.
Indonesia is ranked in the global startup ecosystem index, with more than 2,500 startups supported by more than 120 incubators.
The programs of the Ministry of communication and Digital (Komdigi) such as Beta School, National Movement of 1000 digital startups, Startup Studio were also held which aimed to strengthen the capacity of startups to compete in the global market.
Nezar added that the success of digital transformation requires synergy between the government, private sector, academia, and SOEs to create a resilient ecosystem.
“With solid collaboration, Indonesia has the opportunity to become a leader in the global digital economy by 2038 and achieve the Golden Indonesia vision 2045,” he said.
