Minister of Communications and Digital Meutya Hafid affirmed the role of digital technology in building an inclusive and sustainable future for Indonesia.
“Digital technology can help reduce the risk of conflict and inequality, while opening up equal opportunities for all, including marginal communities,” Meutya said at the knitting Indonesia’s future dialogue in Kura Kura Serangan, Denpasar, quoted through a press statement, Sunday.
The government is implementing digital transformation in order to empower the community, especially marginal communities.
According to Meutya Hafid, the use of digital technology must be based on ethical values, tolerance, and collaboration to answer various global challenges, such as the digital divide, climate change, equality struggles and cross-border conflicts.
In addition, technology is not only a means of communication, but also a unifying tool of the world.
Meutya Hafid exemplified the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology that has proven effective in supporting global peace.
UNESCO uses the latest technology to analyze patterns of conflict in various regions to data-driven decision – making and early Warning systems of conflict in Africa and South Asia.
In line with the Tri Hita Karana principle, the minister reminded that technology must serve people, and it was also in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction at the APEC Summit on extraordinary breakthroughs in technology that require leaders to be wiser, more patient, more accommodating.
“Because the power of technology can bring great progress to human life, but also capable of bringing the destruction of human life very quickly. Let’s use technology for Good, bring people together and drive progress,” he said.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the National Economic Council, Mari Elka Pangestu, highlighted the importance of sustainable development that is not only oriented to economic growth, but also people’s happiness.
“True progress is one that benefits all, without harming the environment and empowering the vulnerable,” he said.
In the discussion, participants were invited to reflect on Indonesia’s economic transformation in a global context. With the spirit of Tri Hita Karana, which promotes harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality, it is hoped that technology can be used to unite the community while supporting environmental sustainability.
“How do we take advantage of the momentum of major changes in the country and abroad by taking the opportunity to transform,” said Mari Elka Pangestu.
In the event, Menkomdigi Meutya Hafid also signed a memorandum of Understanding for the use of Digital technology in Sustainable Development with the president of the Indonesian peace effort Foundation Tantowi Yahya.
