Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Doreen Bogdan-Martind in a speech at the 19th Internet Governance Forum (IGF), Monday (16/12/2024), in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, said that although in the last 20 years there has been progress regarding how many people can access the internet, there is still a problem of inequality in internet access between high and low income countries.
In developing countries, the digital divide appears in access to telecommunications infrastructure and digital services. Only 4 percent of low-income countries have access to 5G networks, compared with 84 percent in developed countries.
